Raiders RB Josh Jacobs sprained ankle, could play vs. Jets

The Las Vegas Raiders received both bad and good news on Monday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Raiders running back Josh Jacobs suffered an ankle sprain in the third quarter of Sunday's 43-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The injury initially looked worse than tests confirmed, though, and the 22-year-old could be available for next Sunday's matchup at the winless New York Jets.

Jacobs rushed for 27 yards on seven carries and also tallied three catches for 17 yards against the Falcons before he lost a fumble and grabbed his ankle after that turnover. The Raiders were facing a 24-point deficit at the time of the fumble and produced little on offense without Jacobs in the backfield.

A second consecutive defeat dropped Las Vegas to 6-5 overall and out of the playoff picture heading into Week 13, but coach Jon Gruden may elect to sit his starting ball-carrier through the upcoming weekend with the Jets at 0-11 and potentially spiraling toward an 0-16 campaign. Per ESPN stats, Jacobs is fifth in the NFL with 782 rushing yards on the year.

The Raiders host the Indianapolis Colts (7-4) on Dec. 13.
