Sitting at 2-4, the Las Vegas Raiders do not strike anyone as the type of team who should buy at the trade deadline.
The Raiders would be more likely to sell assets at this stage, and they do have a fair amount of attractive pieces. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers would not be a terrible idea to move off of if he is not going to return after this season, and linebacker Jamal Adams could be flipped for an additional pick as well. Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs is the last game the Raiders have before the trade deadline on Nov. 4, so they have until then to identify their core players and make deals accordingly.
However, the possibility of reuniting head coach Pete Carroll with one of his best project players may be too good of an opportunity to pass up.
According to Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, the Raiders are expected to be in the market for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen.
“Speculation is that, depending on the price, the Las Vegas Raiders will be in the market for Woolen. This not only fills a need at cornerback for the team, but it reunites Woolen with Pete Carroll, who was in part responsible for drafting the defensive back out of UTSA back in 2022,” wrote Pauline.
Woolen would be an excellent candidate for the Raiders to pick up, even with their struggles this season.
It has been a challenging season for Woolen, who has lost his starting cornerback role to Derion Kendrick and Josh Jobe. Reuniting with Carroll makes sense, as Woolen enjoyed his best season under the veteran head coach with six interceptions in 2022. It also makes sense for the Raiders, as Eric Stokes is a free agent after the season and Kyu Blu Kelly has struggled in a starting role.
Picking up Woolen and Carroll helping him bounce back to relevance would be a good bit of business for the Raiders, regardless of how the season goes.
