The Las Vegas Raiders and Ashton Jeanty tasted defeat together for the first time ever. Yet one Chargers legend couldn't help but praise the "shifty as hell" rookie running back.
Jeanty finished with 43 rushing yards on 11 carries in the 20-9 Monday Night Football loss. Former Raiders rival and Bolts great Shawne Merriman watched the game inside Allegiant Stadium.
"Lights Out" loved what he saw from the defense he once led. But couldn't help but praise the first-year Raiders RB.
"Ashton Jeanty is shifty as hell he’s going to be a problem for a long time sheesh," Merriman said on X, formerly Twitter.
Jeanty is giving Raiders Nation a potential taste of what's to come in his highly-anticipated NFL career. Including showing the sheer power that made him revered across the nation last season.
The Boise State star executed the truck stick moment at Allegiant Stadium: Plowing through safety Alohi Gilman on his first carry of the evening.

The Raiders, however, turned to the air more than Jeanty for the rest of the evening. Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly opted to throw the ball 43 times compared to running 19 rushing attempts total.
Vegas witnessed the Chargers intercept Geno Smith three times through this philosophy. With Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter getting his unit to provide little spacing between the Raiders receivers and Charger defensive backs.
College football fans got used to Jeanty threatening to cross the 200-yard mark each week. Or simply settle for around 110 yards.
Jeanty hasn't delivered his first 100-yard outing in a Raiders uniform. Now a Boise State insider has expressed concern.
B.J. Rains of 247Sports, who covered Jeanty's career on the blue turf, took to X to share his honesty about Jeanty's situation -- calling it "horrible."
"I feel bad for Ashton Jeanty. This just looks like a horrible situation for him. I hope I’m overreacting. I really do. Because this has been awful on every level," Rains said.
Unfortunately Rains is joining a massive population in watching Jeanty struggle to get a high number of touches. Perhaps, though, it's by choice from both Kelly and Pete Carroll -- as they want their back healthy for the midseason part of the year when teams make the push for the playoffs.
Still, a revered Chargers defender who spent his career battling the Raiders couldn't help but rave about Jeanty's abilities.
The Raiders will head back to the east coast to take on the Washington Commanders next on Sunday.
