Davante Adams has strong message for Jimmy Garoppolo

The Las Vegas Raiders were finally able to get quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on the field for some preseason action. The two-time Super Bowl champion (as Tom Brady’s backup with the New England Patriots) spent his offseason trying to recover from a foot injury that ultimately help spell the end of his run with the San Francisco 49ers.

Garoppolo finally got on the field in the Raiders’ 34-17 preseason win against the Los Angeles Rams. He completed all four of his passing attempts for 39 yards.

After the game, All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams discussed how good it was to finally see his starting quarterback on the field.

One of the reasons that Adams wanted to be traded to Las Vegas in the first place was to play with his college quarterback Derek Carr. Well, the Raiders underachieved last season and Carr had one of the worst campaigns of his career. He was dismissed from the team before the season even ended.

The Raiders acquired Garoppolo, whose foot injury (in part) led to the emergence of Mr. Irrelevant 2022 Brock Purdy becoming the starting quarterback in San Francisco.

Adams was not too thrilled that his friend had been cut loose by the team, and he was even more frustrated that the quarterback he was supposed to play with in 2023 couldn’t get healthy during the offseason.

However, all that is behind them and Adams had this to say about Garoppolo following the game:

“He had a lot of time off, so it’s going to take a little bit of adjusting to get back into it and learn new guys,” Adams said in his August 19 postgame availability, via Vic Tafur of The Athletic. “You can see the growth over the camp. I am proud of him.”

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for Garoppolo to click with his wide receivers, particularly Adams, who needs 14 touchdowns to surpass 100 for his career.
