The Los Angeles Rams received some surprising news out of Jacksonville this week — and it could have a major impact on their upcoming matchup in London. The Jaguars officially ruled out linebacker Devin Lloyd for Week 7 after he aggravated a calf injury in last Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Lloyd, who has been one of the best defenders in the NFL this season, did not travel with the team to London. Head coach Liam Coen confirmed Monday that the decision was made after the team noticed tightness in Lloyd’s right calf during the game.
“Just a couple of medical updates, injuries. [LB] Devin Lloyd we’re currently evaluating for a calf. He was cleared, played the first half. Tightened up on him at halftime, went to go in the second half a little bit. It was just too tight,” Coen told reporters. “So, made a decision as coaches to get Ventrell [Miller] in. Ventrell played well. He was cleared medically to play, but we just felt like, as coaches, watching him run a little bit, that it was just too tight.”

The loss of Lloyd is a significant blow for Jacksonville. The former first-round pick had been named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September and led the league with five takeaways — including four interceptions and a 99-yard pick-six against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5.
Over his four-year career, Lloyd has totaled 383 tackles, eight interceptions, and five fumble recoveries, establishing himself as the centerpiece of Jacksonville’s defensive resurgence. His range and instincts have made him indispensable in both run support and coverage.
Still, there’s optimism that this setback won’t keep him out long. Because the Jaguars have a bye week following the London game, Lloyd could return as soon as Week 9 against the Raiders.
Lloyd’s absence changes how Sean McVay might attack Jacksonville’s defense. Without their three-down linebacker, the Jaguars will turn to third-year pro Ventrell Miller, who logged 29 snaps last week and impressed in relief duty.
With Puka Nacua’s status uncertain and the Jaguars’ defense missing its leader in the middle, Sunday’s matchup at Wembley Stadium could come down to how well Miller holds up — and whether the Rams can exploit the middle of the field without Lloyd patrolling it.
