As Week 17 closes, the Los Angeles Rams face one of their most consequential injury decisions of the season: will star receiver Davante Adams be active against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football?

Adams’ Status: Inactive

Adam Grosbard of the OC Register posted to X, “WR Davante Adams and LT Alaric Jackson are INACTIVE today.”

Adams, dealing with a hamstring injury sustained in Week 15 against the Detroit Lions, was unable to return for Week 16’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Los Angeles listed him as “doubtful” on the final Week 17 injury report.

Head coach Sean McVay was optimistic about Adams’ recovery. “He’s doing great. He’s making really good progress. I know he’s chomping at the bit to get back out there,” McVay said during a Dec. 27 media session. Despite the positive updates, Adams did not participate in any of the team’s three practice sessions leading up to the game.

Team Context: Playoff Position and Risk Management

The Rams enter Week 17 having already been eliminated from the NFC West race. With the team locked into either the No. 5 or No. 6 playoff seed, there is minimal incentive to rush Adams back. “We’ll be in good shape when we get him back, whether that’s this week or next week with the playoffs,” McVay added, signaling a cautious approach. Preserving Adams’ health could be crucial for a postseason run.

Adams’ Impact on the Rams Offense

Adams’ 2025 numbers highlight his importance:

  • 60 receptions on 114 targets
  • 789 receiving yards
  • 14 touchdowns
  • 13.2 yards per reception

The team has clearly performed better with Adams on the field. In the 14 games he played at full capacity, the Rams averaged 30.6 points per game, accumulated 3,722 passing yards, and posted an 11-3 record. In the single game where Adams had limited involvement, scoring efficiency and win percentage dropped dramatically.

McVay and the Rams’ coaching staff face a delicate balance: ensuring playoff health for their star receiver while fielding a competitive team in Week 17. With offensive linemen and other starters also in flux, Adams’ availability will shape both the game plan and the Rams’ postseason momentum.

Looking Ahead

Whether Adams takes the field tonight or sits, the Rams will lean on their depth and remaining playmakers to maintain offensive continuity. For a team targeting a Super Bowl run, the priority is clear: protect the health of the core stars, and let Adams return fully ready for the playoffs.
