The Los Angeles Rams headed into Week 13’s road game against the Carolina Panthers riding a six-game winning streak. Los Angeles has looked every bit like a true Super Bowl contender, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has emerged as a frontrunner for MVP.
Stafford has benefited from an impressive supporting cast, particularly running back Kyren Williams, who has dominated on the ground. A fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame in the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams has been outstanding through his first 11 games of the season.
The 25-year-old has rushed for 796 yards on 170 carries, averaging 4.7 yards per attempt, and has scored six touchdowns. He has also proven to be a dual-threat weapon, contributing as a pass catcher with 24 receptions for 184 yards and three additional scores.
Williams’ strong start to the year was disrupted in the second quarter of Sunday’s Week 13 matchup against Carolina.
On Los Angeles’ final drive of the first half, Williams subbed himself out of the game at the two-minute warning after a five-yard rush on first and goal. On the next play, his backup Blake Corum punched it in for the score, but concern quickly shifted to Williams, who was being evaluated by trainers on the sideline.
As the second half began, the Rams provided an update on Williams’ status, announcing that he had suffered an ankle injury and was questionable to return. “Rams Injury Update: RB Kyren Williams (ankle) is questionable to return,” the team wrote on X.

If Williams is unable to return, Corum would likely take over as the lead back for the remainder of the game. Williams’ status will continue to be closely monitored. He has spent his entire four-year career with the Rams and has proven himself as one of the league’s top backs, earning All-Pro honors in 2023. As a result, Los Angeles rewarded him with a three-year, $33 million extension this past offseason.
His health will be pivotal as the Rams look to sustain their momentum and solidify themselves as legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
