Rams' Sean McVay shares concerning Puka Nacua update

A Thursday morning report suggested that the groin issue that prevented Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua from playing in a 28-6 Rams win over the New York Giants on Sept. 21 could keep Nacua sidelined through Los Angeles' Week 3 game at the 1-1 Denver Broncos this coming Sunday.

Later on Thursday, Sean McVay spoke during an appearance on ESPN Los Angeles like a head coach who believes that Nacua won't be making the trip with his Rams teammates to Denver. 

Puka Nacua not improving as hoped?

"We'll see," McVay said about Nacua possibly playing against the Broncos. "It doesn't...he’s not making great progress." 

As shared by Sarah Barshop of ESPN, McVay revealed on Wednesday that the Rams aren't concerned Nacua's setback could become "any sort of long-term threat." That said, McVay also suggested at that time that Nacua could be dealing with something like a "pre-hernia." 

Nacua led the Rams with five receptions, nine targets and 74 receiving yards in their 27-7 Week 1 loss to the rival San Francisco 49ers. Against the Giants, Rams wide receiver Davante Adams recorded eight receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns. 

That said, the Broncos' defense will likely present more of a challenge while playing in front of a home crowd. 

Sean McVay has "confidence" in passing attack with, without Puka Nacua

"We’d love to welcome Puka back with open arms," McVay added. "But if [he’s not ready], I have a ton of confidence in the group that we will go with if he doesn’t go." 

Shortly after McVay offered his update, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Rams as 2.5-point home favorites over the Broncos. If Nacua can't go against Denver, he will attempt to get right for Los Angeles' Week 4 game at the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 4.
