Rams Terminate Contract After Myles Garrett News

After a disappointing start to the 2026 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams have worked their way back to .500 and have won back-to-back games. The Rams dispatched the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday and will now prepare to face the Washington Commanders in Week 9.

With a 4-4 record, Los Angeles has steadied its season, but in a highly competitive NFC West division, there is little room for error as the season continues. One of the biggest recent developments for the Rams has been the improving health of their superstar edge rusher, Myles Garrett. He has been sidelined since having knee surgery following Week 1.

Garrett’s trade to the Rams in the offseason was among the biggest blockbuster trades of the year, but he has only appeared in one game for LA before landing on injured reserve.

The Rams have remained patient with his recovery, even as the team worked to stabilize its season. Garrett is now taking an important step toward returning, and the team is hoping to have him back to build momentum heading into their Week 11 bye. Head coach Sean McVay announced that Garrett is set to return to practice this week, opening his 21-day window to be activated from injured reserve.

The Rams also announced a series of roster moves Wednesday, including the termination of outside linebacker Garrett Nelson’s practice-squad contract.

Nelson has been serving as depth on the edge, but with Garrett nearing a potential return, the team may have less need to carry additional depth at the position.

The Rams have yet to officially activate Garrett, and his status for Week 9 remains uncertain. However, whenever he is activated, the Rams will get a major boost to their defense at an absolutely critical point in the season.

The Rams’ next two opponents are the Commanders and the Arizona Cardinals, but following the bye, they will face the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, and San Francisco 49ers.

If Garrett is able to return either this week or shortly afterward, the Rams should finally get an extended look at their blockbuster offseason acquisition in action.
