Ranking Potential Jets Head Coaches From 'No Brainers' To 'No Way'

When the regular season concludes, the New York Jets are going to be in the market for a new head coach. At 3-7, their playoff hopes are almost all but dead at this point.

As the debate ranges between what New York should be focusing on regarding their new head honcho, there are several big names available that could be exactly what Gang Green needs in their new coach.

With so many available coaches to choose from, we have broken down the list into those that are no-brainer-type hires, and ones the organization should stay away from.

Let's get through the list now:

No Brainers- Kevin Stefanski*, Todd Monken, Ben Johnson

We start with the obvious answers.

Monken, Stefanski, and Johnson have been highly successful play-calling coaches with evidence they can turn around a group while developing young quarterbacks.

That should be at the top of the list of things New York tries to acquire in the new era. Johnson is going to be the top name in this cycle and can basically choose where he wants to go.

Monken has a previous relationship with the Jets and would be my favorite to land the job right now.

The caveat here is that Stefanski may not be fired by the Cleveland Browns so his name is simply here just as a potential switch for New York at this time. If he does become available, the Johnson family should do everything in their power to bring him in.

Solid Pickups - Mike Vrabel, Aaron Glenn, Bobby Slowik

You can't go wrong with the thought process of any coach on this list. Vrabel is a sexy pick that many fans want at this stage. He was able to get Tennessee to the Conference Championship team and is kind of the no-nonsense coach the fanbase has been begging for.

So why isn't he in the no-brainer column?

Simply put, New York needs to end this running list of defensive-minded head coaches. It hasn't worked and it is behind the times when compared to the rest of the league. The Jets need to get the quarterback position right once and for all, and it's hard to see that happening with a defensive-minded head coach.

That's also why Aaron Glenn would also be in consideration, but not as an immediate favorite.

Slowik is a play-calling offensive-minded coach but doesn't come with the same kind of record as the names on the no-brainer list.

Intriguing Ideas - Brian Johnson, Joe Brady, Liam Coen

These are coaches that may be underrated to New York's fanbase, but might just be exactly what the organization is looking for.

Brady and Coen are both offensive play-callers on their respective teams while also being young and enthusiastic. Brady in particular has had numerous head coaching interviews in past seasons. Their records are solid and should be deserving of consideration.

In the case of Johnson, he's done a great job with quarterbacks in the past but doesn't have a ton of success as a play-caller in the NFL. He has maintained good relationships with everyone he has worked with, though, and it's something that could help his case in this coaching cycle.

No Way - Brian Flores, Kliff Kingsbury, Matt Nagy

These are coaches the Jets should avoid like the plague for a number of different reasons.

Let's start with Flores. While he's done a wonderful job of repairing the defense of the Minnesota Vikings, his past failures with Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins should force New York to go elsewhere.

Kingsbury and Nagy were both colossal failures in their first stint as head coaches as well so there's no reason the Jets should be focusing on these names, either.
