Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail for violating the terms of probation for his role in a 2024 car crash. Rice reportedly tested positive for marijuana.

Rice is due to be released from jail on June 16, meaning he will miss the Chiefs’ OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

More importantly for the team, it remains to be seen what disciplinary action might be taken by the NFL. Rice was suspended for the first six games of the 2025 season for his role in the car crash. It’s possible the league can take further action due to the violation of his probation and jail time. The NFL has yet to comment on the situation, other than to say they are aware of it.

In eight games last season, Rice caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns. Rice is expected to be a key contributor this season among the Chiefs’ receivers. It had been speculated Kansas City might use a high draft pick on a receiver, but it did not. The Chiefs drafted Cincinnati receiver Cyrus Allen in the fifth round. Their current starting receivers are Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton.

If Rice misses any time at the start of the season, it would certainly hamstring quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is reportedly making good progress on his rehabilitation of a torn ACL.
