The Baltimore Ravens acquired Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett on Wednesday after starter Lamar Jackson sustained a right thumb injury in Sunday’s 36–10 loss to the Buffalo Bills and is expected to go on injured reserve.
Backup Tyler Huntley is out for the season with turf toe, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will start Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He practiced wearing a brace on his right ankle. Kedon Slovis and Austin Reed — both signed within the past three days — are Baltimore’s other two active quarterbacks. Those three have zero NFL starts, 23 combined pass attempts and zero touchdown passes.
Brissett, 33, is in his 11th NFL season and has a career record of 23–50. He was benched by the Cardinals (3–5) and fell to third on their depth chart. Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork previously worked with Brissett in Arizona last season.
Baltimore’s offense has scored 14 or fewer points in three straight games — the first time that has occurred in 21 years. Since Week 6, the Ravens have committed eight false starts and scored three touchdowns.
The Ravens began the season 4–1. Their decline accelerated after Jackson missed time with injuries to his ankle and hand. Without Jackson, Baltimore is 7–14 since 2019.
Veteran playmakers including running back Derrick Henry, wide receiver Zay Flowers, defensive end Calais Campbell and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley remain on the roster. The team has not declared the season lost, though Jackson’s return this year remains uncertain.
