The Las Vegas Raiders kickstarted their rebuild with a blockbuster trade at the start of the offseason, reportedly sending Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens for two first-round picks, including the 14th pick in this year’s draft.

The deal could not be finalized until the start of the new league year, however, so even though Crosby sent out a message thanking the Raiders and expressing excitement about his new chapter, nothing was official.

So with that being the case, a bombshell was dropped on the Raiders when the Ravens notified them that they were pulling out of the deal, the team announced on Tuesday night:

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Ravens pulled out of the trade because of a failed physical:

While the Ravens failed Crosby’s physical, his agent put out a statement making it clear that Crosby’s rehab from offseason knee surgery is on schedule and he is expected to be ready in plenty of time for the 2026 season:

This is something that rarely happens in the NFL, so it definitely sent shockwaves across the league when the news broke.

Where do Raiders go from here?

It will be interesting to see where the Raiders go from here as they spent a ton of money in free agency with the expectation that Crosby would no longer be under contract. Free agent deals don’t become official until Wednesday, so they can still pull out of deals they have agreed to, although that would reflect poorly on the organization.

Meanwhile, Crosby is back with the Raiders for the time being. It remains to be seen if they will keep him and if he even wants to return, or if they will try to trade him again, likely for lower compensation since he failed his Ravens physical.

Regardless, this is a messy situation that hopefully will get cleared up in the near future.
