The Baltimore Ravens are finalizing a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for quarterback Jacoby Brissett as they deal with multiple injuries at the position.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that the deal is expected to be completed this weekend. The teams have not announced the terms of the trade.

Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur declined to discuss the situation, saying the organization would allow the process to play out.

Baltimore urgently needs quarterback help after losing Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley to injuries. Jackson suffered a thumb injury that requires surgery and is expected to miss significant time, while Huntley’s turf toe injury will end his season.

Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will start Thursday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kedon Slovis and Austin Reed are also available after joining the team this week.

Cardinals Bench Brissett After 20 Starts

Brissett became expendable in Arizona after the Cardinals decided to change their quarterback lineup.

The 33-year-old started Arizona’s first eight games this season and had started 20 consecutive games dating back to Week 6 of last season. However, Gardner Minshew replaced him in the third quarter of Sunday’s overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys, ending his starting run.

LaFleur subsequently named Minshew the starter moving forward, with rookie Carson Beck moving into the backup role and Brissett dropping to third string.

Brissett finished his eight starts this season with 1,719 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He reportedly requested a trade Monday after learning about the change.

Brissett Could Start Against Chargers

The expected move gives Brissett an opportunity to reunite with Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork, who previously worked with him in Arizona and Cleveland.

That familiarity could help the veteran adjust quickly to Baltimore’s offense. Brissett has 11 seasons of NFL experience and has played for several franchises throughout his career.

The Ravens will have an 11-day break after Thursday’s matchup, giving Brissett additional time to join the team and prepare for their November 16 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Baltimore has lost three consecutive games and sits at 4-4, placing last in the AFC North. The team has also struggled offensively, failing to score more than 13 points in each of its past three games.

Brissett’s arrival would give the Ravens an experienced option as they attempt to remain competitive while Jackson and Huntley recover from their injuries.
