Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson exited Sunday’s win over the Titans just before halftime with an ankle injury, raising uncertainty about his availability for next Monday’s matchup with the Falcons.
Jackson was one of several Ravens to go down in the victory. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey (calf), tight end Durham Smythe (Achilles), and right guard Andrew Vorhees (foot) also left the game and did not return.
Jackson, 29, put together a brilliant first half, completing 15 of his 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 29-yard scramble called back by a holding penalty that might have been origin of his injury. His final play was a sack by Titans defensive end Jermaine Johnson with 12 seconds left in the first half, setting up a career-long 64-yard field goal from second-year kicker Tyler Loop that gave Baltimore a 24-7 lead. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley took over in the second half and struggled to move the ball, going just 48 yards on his longest drive, which was ended by a missed 40-yard miss by Loop.
The Ravens’ postgame comments project cautious optimism about the two-time MVP. Head coach Jesse Minter indicated that the team considered putting Jackson back on the field in the second half, and Huntley said that he did not know he was taking over until shortly before the third quarter kicked off.
Jackson is believed to be “day-to day,” per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, though he was also classified as “week to week” pending an MRI by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. He left M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore with his ankle in a boot, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.
“Hopefully it’s in a good spot,” Minter said. He will likely have an update on his star quarterback during his Monday press conference. Baltimore’s first injury report will be released on Thursday ahead of next Monday night’s matchup with the Falcons, which gives Jackson an extra day to recovery.
Humphrey was initially designated as questionable to return before being ruled out, preserving some optimism that he avoided a significant injury. Veteran Chidobe Awuzie closed out the game as Baltimore’s right boundary cornerback and would be in line to start next week if Humphrey is sidelined.
Smythe entered the week with a heel injury, which, combined with the speed with which he was ruled out, is concerning. He has been a key blocker in Declan Doyle’s offense to start the season, as well as a mentor to rookie tight ends Matthew Hibner and Josh Cuevas. Both will be asked to step up should Smythe miss time.
The Ravens just re-shuffled the interior of their offensive line after losing centers Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic in their Week 3 win in Brazil. First-round rookie Vega Ioane moved from right guard to start at center for the first time in his college or professional career. Replacing him at right guard was Andrew Vorhees, whose poor play at left guard last year pushed the team to upgrade this offseason. Vorhees then went down with a foot injury and was replaced by 2024 third-round pick Emery Jones, who would likely get the starting nod next week if Vorhee is out.
