Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are 4-4 after losing three straight, the latest a 36-10 defeat to the Buffalo Bills. On the Ravens’ first offensive play, the quarterback hurt his right thumb on a throw to Zay Flowers.

The injury requires surgery and sends him to injured reserve for at least four games, and Jesse Minter would only say “we’ll see” when asked about the season. Jackson had just returned from missing three games with an ankle injury, and he had posted 967 passing yards, six touchdowns and one interception while completing 70.8 percent of his throws.

Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley had steadied the offense, going 1-2 as the starter with four touchdown passes against one interception, including a 30-23 overtime win in Atlanta.

Then Huntley suffered a toe injury of his own against the Bills, and the focus shifted to the test results.

Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that tests revealed Huntley suffered a season-ending turf toe injury, which leaves the Ravens with undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano as their starting quarterback Thursday night against Jacksonville.

The UConn product, who went 10 of 21 for 91 yards with an interception after becoming the last healthy passer, will start even while playing through an ankle problem. He becomes the second undrafted rookie quarterback to start for the franchise.

Baltimore added depth Tuesday by signing Kedon Slovis off Green Bay’s practice squad, though he has thrown only two NFL passes.

A veteran looks like the logical next step, and before the trade deadline arrives November 10 at 4 p.m. ET, the Ravens could look into Indianapolis Colts’ Anthony Richardson Sr., Zach Wilson of the New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns’ Shedeur Sanders, Las Vegas Raiders’ Aidan O’Connell or Jacoby Brissett of the Arizona Cardinals.

The Ravens will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 8:15 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium.
