Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry had a standout performance on Week 1 of "Sunday Night Football" against the Buffalo Bills — for better or for worse.

Led by 424 yards of total offense and four touchdowns from quarterback Josh Allen, the Bills were able to erase a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit and pull off a 41-40 win at Highmark Stadium.

Henry took 18 carries for 169 yards and two touchdowns, while Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson added 279 yards of offense and three scores.

Derrick Henry's Fumble Aides Bills' Comeback

It was Henry who put Baltimore up 40-25 with a 46-yard gallop into the end zone with just 11:42 left in the game. With the Bills down to a 1.1 percent win probability, fans even started leaving the stadium.

However, the 31-year-old gave Buffalo a window back into the game with a costly fumble when the score was 40-32 with 3:10 left in the fourth quarter.

Four plays later, Allen scored a rushing touchdown to make it 40-38. Bills kicker Matt Prater sealed the Ravens' fate with a 32-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.

Henry Takes Blame for Ravens' Loss

The significance of Henry's mistake was not lost on the star running back after his otherwise dominant performance.

"First of all, I've got to take care of the ball," Henry told ESPN reporter Jamison Hensley in the locker room. "I told my teammates after the game to put the loss on me. I own it like a man."

The 10th-year pro called it a "lackadaisical" mistake, which stung even more because ball security had been a focus of the Ravens offense in the preseason.

"If I take care of the ball, it probably would have been a different situation," he admitted.

The fumble was the only turnover of the game by either team. It was the 21st fumble of Henry's NFL career and his first fumble since a Week 11 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024.
