The Baltimore Ravens defense is quickly becoming one of the most feared units in football heading into the 2025 season. While the 2024 campaign was disastrous, they showed glimpses of greatness late in the year. After a productive offseason of adding rookies with limitless potential and proven veterans, Zach Orr’s group appears bound for dominance.
There was already a ton of talent on the defensive side to begin with last year. Although it took time to translate on the field, they had the starters capable of putting together a solid year. One of those players is outside linebacker Tavius Robinson, who is starting to inch closer toward an awaited breakout.
After an encouraging summer of offseason activities, Robinson has had a strong start to training camp. Since the pads went on, the 26-year-old is wrecking the opposing offensive line. He is getting to the quarterback as much as anyone on the defense, proving too strong for many of his opponents in one-on-ones. His impact is not just coming on the field, though.
Although he is only gearing up for his third NFL season, Robinson is already becoming one of the team’s most vocal leaders. For his fellow outside linebackers, he has become a go-to guy when they are looking for guidance. That includes rookie second-round pick Mike Green, who has praised Robinson for his leadership this offseason.
In his press conference on Tuesday, Green discussed his adjustments to the professional level, highlighting the significant role Robinson has played in his development thus far, serving as a veteran he can look up to.
“Just the way [Tavius Robinson] goes about his day, the way I see him work. He’s out here flying around, he’s being very disruptive, and I would say he does a lot of things right,” Green said. “My time being here, that’s definitely a vet I can look up to and I can follow behind because he does the right things.”
Robinson only registered 3.5 sacks in 2024, but it was a significant step forward from his rookie campaign, where he only tallied one sack. His play goes beyond the stat sheet, as well. He is relentless in his pass rush and also makes his presence known in the run game. At 6-foot-6 with long arms, the former Ole Miss Rebel has all the traits to find success in the league, and 2025 is looking like his year to do so. But the numbers might not be eye-popping due to Baltimore’s depth at outside linebacker.
The starting duo of Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh was extremely effective last season. They both put up double-digit sacks (12.5 and 10, respectively), and are joined by the highly touted rookie in Green. Robinson may remain a rotational piece, but with the way coaches are talking about him, it would not be a shock if he begins to steal snaps from one of the starters. That said, he is helping the unit as a whole grow, and they should be back near the top of the NFL in total sacks by year’s end.
