Ravens waive QB Robert Griffin III

Following their postseason loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Baltimore Ravens signed 11 players to reserve/future deals and also waived four veterans.

Among the releases was quarterback and 2012 second overall draft pick Robert Griffin III

Griffin thanked Baltimore and the Ravens on Monday before and after the team broke the news:

Griffin joined the Ravens as a backup in the spring of 2018 and spent most of the 2020 season behind reigning regular-season MVP Lamar Jackson on the depth chart. The man affectionately known as RG3 did start against the Pittsburgh Steelers in early December while Jackson was battling COVID-19 but suffered a hamstring injury in that contest and was ultimately placed on injured reserve.

That proved to be his last appearance in a Baltimore uniform.

The Ravens also played Trace McSorley and, most recently, undrafted rookie Tyler Huntley at QB. Huntley completed six of 13 attempts for 60 yards and also rushed for 32 yards against Buffalo and is in line to be Jackson's primary backup next fall.

As for Griffin, the 30-year-old should find a home as a reliable backup signal-caller either during the spring or after training camp sessions begin.
