Ravens WR Zay Flowers Speaks on Potential Contract Extension

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers is entering his fourth season in the league, which means he’s almost due for a new contract. A first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Boston College product immediately made a name for himself by recording 77 receptions for 858 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie. He built on that breakout campaign over his next two seasons, eclipsing 1,000 yards in both campaigns while earning two Pro Bowl selections. He’s no Ja’Marr Chase, but he is one of the league’s better wide receivers and will earn a hefty raise when he signs his next deal.

Fellow 2023 draft pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba recently signed a record-setting contract with the Seattle Seahawks, but Zay Flowers isn’t letting that extension get to his mind. In a recent interview, Flowers addressed Smith-Njigba’s extension but said he’s not focused on his eventual payday.

“Congrats to him. He did that one,” Flowers said. “I ain’t really paying attention to [the contract], if I’m being honest. I go train every day. I let my agents handle that.

Zay Flowers Not Worried About Potential Contract Extension

Let’s start with the obvious: Zay Flowers is a good wide receiver, but his next contract will not exceed Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s. The Seahawks wide receiver is coming off a dominant campaign, finishing the year with a staggering 119 receptions for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns while helping the team win the Super Bowl. He’s one of the game’s elite talents, and his contract reflects that. Flowers will earn a massive raise, but it won’t be a record-setting deal.

With that being said, the Ravens also don’t need to pay Flowers for a few years. As a former first-round pick, Baltimore can use the fifth-year option to extend his rookie contract and keep him from reaching the open market. He has two more years of team control, and the wide receiver market will probably look considerably different if the Ravens wait until the last moment to extend him. Only time will tell what he makes, but it’s safe to assume Baltimore won’t let him leave the team.
