RB Kareem Hunt wants contract extension with Browns

Like multiple members of the 2021 Cleveland Browns, running back Kareem Hunt endured a season he'd like to put out of memory. Hunt was limited to just eight games because of injury issues and finished the campaign with an unremarkable 386 yards and five touchdowns on 78 carries to go along with 22 receptions for 174 yards and zero additional scores.

As things stand today, Hunt is on track to serve as Cleveland's RB2 behind Pro Bowl ball-carrier Nick Chubb, who put pen to paper on a big-money extension with the organization last summer. The 26-year-old who is out of contract after the upcoming season wants to stay put alongside Chubb, but that might not be his call to make.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk), Hunt says his agent has spoken to the Browns "a little bit" regarding an extension.

"I really don’t know what to think right now," Hunt explained. "I’m just trying to go out there and show them I’m healthy, show them I’m ready to ball out for them as long as they want me to, so I’d love to here for a long time. . . . I was born and raised here. I’d love to finish my career here and just keep playing the game with Chubb longer and with the great guys on this great team."

Earlier this month, the Browns re-signed D'Ernest Johnson, 26, who could take touches away from Hunt this fall and prove that the latter is surplus to requirements behind an elite back such as Chubb.
