This is the time of year in the NFL when teams tend to self-evaluate their process and the results it produced the previous season. Teams will then use that data to build strategies for franchise tags, free-agent signings, and preparing for the 2026 NFL draft. NFL teams perform this self-analysis to determine whether the decisions they are making are helping them get closer to their goal: winning the Super Bowl. A big factor in how well teams played during the 2025 season was how they approached the 2025 NFL draft and assessed the value of those picks.
During the 2025 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars made one of the boldest moves in the draft early in the first round. The Jaguars put together a trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up to the second overall pick in the draft. NFL teams do not make these types of decisions unless they have a specific player in mind, and for Jacksonville, that player was wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter.
| Round | Pick | Player | Position | School |
| 1 | 2 | Travis Hunter | WR/CB | Colorado |
| 3 | 88 | Caleb Ransaw | CB | Tulane |
| 3 | 89 | Wyatt Milum | OL | West Virginia |
| 4 | 104 | Bhayshul Tuten | RB | Virginia Tech |
| 4 | 107 | Jack Kiser | LB | Notre Dame |
| 6 | 194 | Jalen McLeod | LB | Auburn |
| 6 | 200 | Rayuan Lane III | S | Navy |
| 7 | 221 | Jonah Monheim | C | USC |
| 7 | 236 | LeQuint Allen Jr. | RB | Syracuse |
Travis Hunter delivered what the Jaguars were expecting when he was healthy for the first 12 weeks of the 2025 season. Hunter made an impact on both sides of the ball, posting multiple games with over 100 receiving yards. In addition, Hunter backed up his claim that he could succeed as a two-way player in the NFL by stepping right in on both sides of the ball. However, Hunter’s season ended early with a torn LCL, and he was not a factor for the Jaguars run to the AFC South championship and the playoffs.
Along with Hunter, there were three other players that the Jaguars had projected to pay instant dividends during their rookie seasons. Those picks were offensive lineman Wyatt Milum, cornerback Caleb Ransaw, and running back Bhayshul Tuten. However, Milum and Ransaw were unable to finish the 2025 season after being added to the Jaguars’ injured reserve list.
While the Jaguars plan to bring in young talent to spark a turnaround on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, it has not gone as expected. Jacksonville succeeded in turning the team around, winning the AFC South division championship and returning to the playoffs. However, the biggest names drafted by the Jaguars in this draft did not finish the season, so those rookies were not specifically the catalyst for the Jaguars turnaround during the 2025 season.
