Report: 49ers player tests positive for coronavirus

June 19 could go down as a memorable day as it pertains to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on North American professional sports.

On Friday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Ian Rapoport, and Tom Pelissero reported that a San Francisco 49ers player working out in Nashville tested positive for COVID-19.

Others who trained with that player are still awaiting test results:

Positive test results and coronavirus outbreaks flooded sports headlines on Friday. The Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays both shut down their Florida spring training facilities amid COVID-19 concerns.

Philadelphia confirmed at least five players and three staff members working in Clearwater tested positive this week. One Toronto player who had recently spent time in the Philadelphia system was showing virus symptoms.

TSN's Bob McKenzie reported that the Tampa Bay Lightning had at least five individuals associated with the club test positive for COVID-19.

Rival's Nathan Hubbard tweeted a rumor that one PGA Tour player recently tested positive.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson and multiple members of the Houston Texans are all among NFL personnel reported or confirmed to have tested positive over the past week.
