The Jake Moody era in Santa Clara appears to be coming to an end. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the San Francisco 49ers are waiving the former third-round draft pick after his struggles carried over into the 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.

On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged that the 49ers were exploring alternatives after Moody converted just one of his three field goal attempts in Seattle.
"We're looking into all that stuff now," Shanahan said. "There's options, just whether it's stay status quo, bringing guys for workouts, practice squad. But we're going through all that stuff right now. I just finished with the team, and I know the personnel department's gonna look into all that stuff and give us those options."
Moody's struggles have been ongoing. He missed 10 field goal attempts and one extra point during the 2024 season. The 49ers had briefly brought in veteran Greg Joseph in May to compete with Moody, but Joseph was released on August 4, leaving Moody as the team's lone kicker through the rest of training camp.
It remains unclear who the 49ers will bring in to replace Moody, though many fans believe the decision to move on from him was long overdue.
