Report: Aaron Rodgers 'truly torn' on where to play in 2022

Apparently not even Aaron Rodgers knows where he wants to play next season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday evening that Rodgers is "truly torn" on where he will play next season. The star quarterback is still under contract for 2022, so if he leaves the Packers it will have to be via trade.

But even then, Rodgers would likely be more than able to pick his destination for next season. He is coming off a second straight MVP season, and Green Bay would likely enter some sort of a rebuild situation if he requests out so his new team could theoretically acquire him for only picks.

Reports have indicated Rodgers may want to stick around for at least one more year, though. He's played his entire NFL career for the Packers, and as such has established meaningful relationships throughout the organization. The team would likely be in the mix to compete for another Super Bowl upon Rodgers' return too, assuming they can retain other key contributors and address other needs.

Still, that may not be enough. Reports of Rodgers' unhappiness with certain aspects of the team's management date back to even before last season, as it was believed for a period of time that he could demand a trade away from Green Bay or straight up retire.

Rodgers has been rumored to be connected to a number of teams, most notably the Broncos, who just hired his former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as their head coach. He's also been linked to the Colts — who are rumored to be open to moving off Carson Wentz as their starter — and the Steelers, who have an opening under center after Ben Roethlisberger's retirement.

Whichever team Rodgers does end up with, they'll be instant contenders for a Super Bowl assuming he maintains the level of play he demonstrated last season. He threw for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns to just four interceptions over 16 games in 2021, a season that ended in a divisional round loss to the 49ers.
