Report: Brian Gutekunst not interested in trading Aaron Rodgers

The future of Aaron Rodgers is still unclear, but Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is trying to rule out at least one possible outcome.

Gutekunst made clear that a possible Rodgers trade is not on his mind, and that Green Bay will resist doing so. Gutekunst cited the fact that the Packers believe they can contend for a Super Bowl with Rodgers as quarterback.

From the Packers’ perspective, the options essentially boil down to Rodgers either returning or retiring. If he wants to play for another team, it’s not clear what direction the Packers would go in. There seems to be a real chance that this is how Rodgers sees things too, though that has not stopped speculation about him possibly playing elsewhere.

Rodgers himself has been fueling plenty of speculation about his future, intentional or not. The fact that the Packers are playing down trade speculation means they may be rather confident that the quarterback doesn’t plan to pursue that, though.
