Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin underwent a second ankle surgery this spring as part of his ongoing recovery from a dislocated left ankle suffered during the 2024 season.

According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, who cites multiple sources, the procedure aimed to clean out the ankle, and Godwin is reportedly progressing well in his rehab. The team’s medical staff is cautiously optimistic about his return, although there’s no definitive timeline for his activation yet

Via Laine,

“Multiple sources told ESPN that Godwin underwent another minor ankle procedure this spring to have it “cleaned out” but a source said it wasn’t a surprise and Godwin is ‘doing well.'”

The Buccaneers have placed Godwin on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, enabling his potential activation at any time before the regular season begins.

Godwin’s NFL journey began when the Buccaneers drafted him in the third round out of Penn State in 2017. After fulfilling his four-year rookie contract worth $3.2 million, Tampa Bay applied the franchise tag, restricting his free agency options.

Following the tag year, Godwin inked a three-year, $60 million contract with $40 million guaranteed in 2022. Before reaching free agency again, he signed an extension – a three-year, $66 million deal with $45 million guaranteed.

Last season, Chris Godwin played in seven games, hauling in 50 receptions on 62 targets for 576 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
