Report: Dolphins Among teams that have “Done Homework” on QB Prospect
Seen in the eyes of many as the second-best quarterback in his draft class behind Fernando Mendoza, Ty Simpson is projected to hear his name called between the late first round and early second round, and the Miami Dolphins allegedly have done their due diligence on the 23-year-old ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
According to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Dolphins are among the squads that have “done homework” on the promising signal-caller prospect along with the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets.
Some teams are skeptical about Simpson going Round 1, but that's not based on ability. It's that they feel Arizona might be able to sit tight at No. 34 and not get jumped.
But that's hardly a guarantee. A ton of teams have done homework on Simpson, from MIA to CLE to PIT to… https://t.co/aqbzvgsEAZ

The Dolphins just so happen to own two picks within the range where Simpson is expected to be drafted. First, they own a pick near the very end of the opening round at No. 30 overall. They got that pick from the Denver Broncos as part of the return for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Moreover, the Dolphins hold a selection in the first half of the second round at No. 43 overall, the 11th pick of that round.
After Simpson didn’t get more than sporadic chances to show off his skill set across his first three seasons of college football, he seized the opportunity to lead the Crimson Tide’s offense in his swan song at the collegiate level. Across 15 games played in 2025, he threw for 28 touchdowns compared to merely five interceptions and also ended the season as the SEC’s leader in passes completed (305).
He would be a great emergency blanket for the Dolphins at the most important position in football, should the Malik Willis experiment not pan out. For as much promise as Willis has shown in recent years, he’s still ultimately an unproven quarterback with limited experience as a starter at the highest level.
Soon, Dolphins fans will know for sure whether Simpson will land with Miami. Day 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft is on Thursday, and Day 2 is on Friday.
