Report: Eagles eyeing Panthers DE Brian Burns

According to CBS Philadelphia , the Philadelphia Eagles have called the Carolina Panthers about trading for Pro Bowl pass-rusher Brian Burns. The Eagles, Chiefs and Rams reportedly have expressed interest in the 24 year-old defensive end, and for good reason.

Burns had 50 tackles last year, 13 for a loss, along with nine sacks and two forced fumbles. Six games into the 2022 season, he already has four sacks and 24 tackles. He has 157 tackles, 29.5 sacks and six forced fumbles since he entered the league in 2019.

Carolina has already exercised Burn's fifth-year option, meaning he will make $16 million in 2023. With older, high-priced players such as Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave and Brandon Graham all due to become free agents next year, a move for Burns now makes a lot of sense.

According to ESPN, Carolina has already turned down an offer of two first-round picks. Perhaps they're just playing hardball, or maybe they can be moved with an offer that includes another mid-round pick. It's hard to imagine Burns wants to stay in Carolina beyond the 2023 season.

Thanks to the New Orleans Saints, the Eagles have two first-round picks in next year's draft. If the season ended now, the Saints' pick would be fourth overall. That pick could be hard to resist.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman has never been shy about making moves at the deadline. In 2017, the Eagles were 7-1 when Roseman traded for running back Jay Ajayi. A move for Burns would be a much bigger deal, but it's not impossible. Stay tuned, Philly.
