Report: Giants expected to pursue former Pro Bowl QB Mitchell Trubisky

Mitchell Trubisky's stay as Josh Allen's backup with the Buffalo Bills may end up being short-lived. The former second-overall pick of the Chicago Bears is set to be a free agent after he signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with Buffalo last March.

One particular team has had a rumored interest in Trubisky, and if a signing were to take place, the 27-year-old could end up staying within the Empire State.

Raanan reported Wednesday morning what impact a potential Trubisky signing would have on the Giants quarterback situation.

"If Trubisky were to sign with the Giants, it would be with the intention of pushing incumbent Daniel Jones, a fellow top-10 draft pick who still has the support of the team's brass despite three rocky seasons. The idea would appear to be to let the best quarterback throughout the spring and summer win," Raanan wrote. "A key selling point for the Giants is having Trubisky reunite with coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen."

Daboll was hired as the Giants next head coach in January after serving as the Bills offensive coordinator for the last four seasons. Schoen was tabbed as the G-Men's general manager after working as Buffalo's assistant general manager since 2017.

Trubisky spent the first four years of his career as the Bears starting quarterback, registering a 64.0% completion percentage, 10,609 passing yards, 64 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. His best season came in his 2018 Pro Bowl campaign when he went 11-3 across 14 contests and posted career bests in completion percentage (66.6%), passing yards (3,223), passing touchdowns (24) and quarterback rating (95.4.)
