Report: Jets add QB Zach Wilson's personal coach to staff

With New York Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson sidelined for at least a couple of weeks due to a sprained right PCL, backup Mike White got the start for Gang Green against the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday and became at least a temporary local hero when he completed 37-of-45 passes for 405 yards with three touchdowns in the upset 34-31 win.

White will start again for Thursday's prime-time game at the Indianapolis Colts, but it appears Jets head coach Robert Saleh is already looking to make Wilson's on-the-field life a little easier whenever the first-year pro is cleared to return.

Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Jets have added Wilson's personal coach and former NFL quarterback John Beck to their coaching staff. Beck was on the sideline for the victory over Cincinnati and is expected to attend future games through the remainder of the campaign. The Jets didn't comment on Beck's exact role with the organization.

Wilson has struggled, as do many rookie signal-callers, and has thrown nine total interceptions, tied for the second-most in all the NFL this season, according to ESPN stats. He's 33rd in the league with a 63.5 passer rating and 32nd with a 25.9 total QBR.

On Monday, Saleh wouldn't commit to automatically going back to Wilson this fall when speaking about his depth chart.

"If everything goes according to plan and Zach comes back and he's healthy, we'll address it when we cross that bridge," Saleh explained.
