Report: Jets Considering Major Coaching Staff Change

The NFL had a lot of head coaching openings this cycle — but the Jets surprisingly weren't one of them.

After hiring former Pro Bowl cornerback and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, New York finished 3-14 in 2025 with an NFL-record zero interceptions on Glenn's side of the ball.

The Jets pretty much failed on all fronts this season. But if there was anyone that performed worse than NY's defense it was the offense led by Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor and rookie Brady Cook.

Now though, the organization is reportedly looking to shake things up in a significant way when it comes to coaching up its offensive attack. And it could start with bringing in a new play-caller.

Jets eyeing new offensive play-caller in 2026

According to multiple reports, the Jets retaining offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand does not necessarily mean that he'll be the one calling plays for Gang Green next season.

The Jets are mulling over the addition of another coach to Glenn's staff that would serve as the primary play-caller on offense in an effort to jumpstart a group that finished 29th in points and yards per game in Engstrand's first year.

Per Connor Hughes of SNY, that coach could be former Colts and Panthers HC Frank Reich who last worked at Stanford as their interim lead man before taking on a role as a senior advisor under GM Andrew Luck.

"Among the names I’ve heard linked to the Jets as they search for a veteran play caller to add to their coaching staff: Frank Reich," Hughes said Monday.

Jets part ways with numerous Aaron Glenn assistants

While Engstrand was able to keep his job, several members of Aaron Glenn's Year 1 staff were shown the door by Woody Johnson and Co.

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, the Jets parted ways with quarterbacks coach Charles London, passoing game coordinator Scott Turner, defensive line coach Eric Washington, linebackers coach Aaron Curry and defensive assistants Roosevelt Williams and Alonso Escalante.

The Jets have posted just one winning season since 2011 and haven't made the playoffs since their back-to-back AFC Championship appearances under Rex Ryan in the two seasons prior.
