Report: Jets star safety Jamal Adams requests trade

It appears New York Jets safety Jamal Adams wasn't kidding when he wrote in an Instagram comment on Thursday that "maybe it's time to move on."

Later in the day, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported that the 24-year-old two-time Pro Bowl defender officially requested a trade from the organization that drafted him with a first-round selection in 2017:

The Jets haven't yet acquiesced.

The 2019 First-Team All-Pro safety is signed through the 2021 campaign but has been outspoken throughout the offseason about wanting a long-term extension and significant pay raise.

Talks between Adams and the Jets reportedly hit a "stalemate" in May.

Adams lashed out at the situation in a not-safe-for-work Instagram rant that ended: "Maybe it's time to move on."

Those words may mean little to Gang Green as the franchise possesses Adams' rights for up to the next three years if the club were to place the franchise or transition tag on him for the 2022 season.

Adams could attempt to orchestrate a trade by threatening a lengthy holdout, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic may keep teams from meeting what will likely be a hefty price tag placed on him by the Jets. Any future employer would also have to pay Adams his desired salary.

Adams has repeatedly been linked with the Dallas Cowboys. The Texas native grew up rooting for "America's Team."
