The Las Vegas Raiders are working on a deal to hire Luke Getsy as the team’s new offensive coordinator, according to a report by Albert Breer.

Most recently, Getsy was the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears from 2022 to 2023. He also spent several seasons with the Green Bay Packers. While with Green Bay, he was a quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, passing game coordinator, and offensive quality control coach. In the process, he earned the respect of many around the NFL, working with quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields.

Along with his time in the NFL, Getsy has spent time in college at Mississippi State and Western Michigan.

For new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, this was one of the biggest hires of the offseason. It’s also one that came with plenty of attention after it was reported that former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury was going to be the team’s next offensive coordinator before he withdrew his name from consideration.

Kliff Kingsbury wasn’t the only big-name former NFL head coach in on the job, though. Chip Kelly, who is currently the head coach at UCLA and has served as the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers head coach, also interviewed for the job.

During the 2023 season, the Raiders averaged 19.5 points per game. That came amid challenges at the quarterback position. Jimmy Garoppolo came to Las Vegas to be the team’s next starting quarterback, likely due to his familiarity with then head coach Josh McDaniels. However, McDaniels was fired midseason and Garoppolo was subsequently benched. In his place, Aiden O’Connell took over at quarterback.

Now, Luke Getsy will be a key part in figuring out both that quarterback situation and how to improve the offense overall.

Raiders hiring former Panthers RB, UCLA assistant DeShaun Foster as RBs coach

Luke Getsy isn’t the first important offensive hire that the Las Vegas Raiders have made this offseason. Recently, the Raiders also brought in DeShaun Foster as the team’s next running backs coach.

Foster, who is best known for his time as a player with the Carolina Panthers and UCLA, has been in coaching since 2012. There, he worked as an undergraduate assistant and later a graduate assistant. From there, he spent one season as the running backs coach at Texas Tech before returning to UCLA in that same role.

This jump to the NFL will be DeShaun Foster’s first time coaching at the NFL level.
