As the Philadelphia Eagles head toward a lost season, some have wondered whether the team would actually consider trading running back Saquon Barkley.
The Eagles have no intention of trading Barkley, according to Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. While the team is taking calls on some players, Barkley is not one of them.
Barkley still has two years remaining on his current contract, so the Eagles have little incentive to move him. The team believes it can be back in contention as soon as next season, and wants Barkley to be a part of that.
Just as this has been a down year for the Eagles, it has been for Barkley as well. He only has 244 yards on the season, largely because of injuries that have limited him to five games and a significantly reduced workload. The Eagles’ offense has also struggled overall, which has not benefitted Barkley.
Teams in need of a running back will have to look elsewhere with Barkley off the table. Fortunately for them, there is a good option available elsewhere.
