Report: Washington 'likely to move on' from Dwayne Haskins in 2021

Dwayne Haskins was supposed to usher in a new era of football in Washington when he was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his second season with the club, he's now Ron Rivera's third option behind Kyle Allen and veteran quarterback Alex Smith. 

With his career in Washington at a standstill, it appears the team is going to move on from him in 2021, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, who says that "it is virtually certain he will not be back in 2021."

When Rivera benched Haskins after a Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Ohio State product reportedly asked for a trade, La Canfora adds. Washington was willing to move on from Haskins at that point, but "there was a limited-at-best market." La Canfora adds that the market for Haskins will be "even more constrained" in 2021 after a rather disappointing tenure in Washington.

Haskins' recent COVID-19 violations will likely make it easier for Washington to part ways with the young quarterback. After he was captured maskless at a strip club, the team took away his captaincy and fined him $40,000. 

While the franchise does want to move on from Haskins, it appears Washington might have to start him on Sunday due to Alex Smith's lingering calf strain. If he starts the team's final two games, it would be in his best interest to put on a show in an effort to increase his stock.
