Reporter shares if Stefon Diggs will be a problem for Bills this season

ESPN's Dan Graziano believes wide receiver Stefon Diggs won't cause any noteworthy problems for the Buffalo Bills as they look to earn a trip to Super Bowl LVIII this season. 

"These things with Diggs tend to be short-lived," Graziano explained for a piece published Friday about the ongoing situation involving the 29-year-old. 

Diggs starred for the Minnesota Vikings from 2015 through the 2019 season until they traded him to Buffalo. Graziano noted that "people who were with (Diggs) in Minnesota say he had flare-ups but that they always seemed to get smoothed over." 

Diggs confronted quarterback Josh Allen during Buffalo's home playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in January and then either wasn't or was excused from the start of mandatory minicamp amid alleged issues that were or weren't related to his desire to have a bigger say in offensive game-planning. While speaking with reporters last week, Diggs made it known Allen is "always going to be my guy" and that the two are "fine" ahead of the team's preseason. 

"Allen is still going to be looking Diggs' way plenty if he's smart," Graziano continued. "The coaching and leadership in Buffalo are strong enough to manage these hiccups, and I think (Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey) will do well in his second season succeeding (current New York Giants head coach) Brian Daboll. Even if the Bills have the occasional issue in a game, I don't see this derailing what the team has going on in the big picture."

Diggs is a three-time Pro Bowl selection who, per ESPN stats, finished last regular season fourth in the NFL with 108 catches, fifth with 1,429 receiving yards and tied for third with 11 touchdown grabs. As for the Bills, OddsChecker listed the AFC East club third among betting favorites at +900 odds to win the Super Bowl in February 2024 as of Friday afternoon.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane insisted this week he never came close to trading Diggs at any point this offseason. Whether or not the relationship between Diggs and his current employer will continue through next August remains to be seen.
