Rex Ryan went nuclear on Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty over some comments Jeanty made about the New York Jets.
Jeanty made comments during the week about the Jets defense, claiming they have players on the unit that “don’t really want to tackle.” On ESPN’s “NFL Countdown,” Ryan was unimpressed that Jeanty would make such claims given the second-year running back’s lack of production.
Ryan spotlighted clips of hard hits from Jets linebacker Demario Davis, then contrasted it with a clip of Jeanty seemingly avoiding contact after a catch.
“This guy’s soft as Charmin. Look at him,” Ryan said. “I’m going to talk to this kid before the game and tell the truth. Listen young man, I heard what you said, and I want you to know something. We are not going to try to take you out of the game. I want him to know. Why? Because you are horrible. You’re about the worst draft pick in the last 20 years, I think, as a running back. You stink. You’re averaging 3.1 yard per carry. Guess what? Today, you get your a– kicked. You know who else does? Your teammates. It’s on you, my friend.”

Ryan clearly thinks Jeanty has no business calling out opposing defenders when the running back has not accomplished much at the NFL level. Jeanty has 1,303 yards in 24 games and is averaging 3.5 yards per carry for his career. He has seen his role shrink this year, and only has one touchdown to his name.
Jeanty has given off the impression of someone who is a bit spoiled. The former No. 6 overall pick has not lived up to his billing, and Ryan is not afraid to say so, even though the former Jets coach might have been a little bit over-the-top.
