Rex Ryan offers advice to Browns' Shedeur Sanders after previous criticisms

Shortly after Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders guided the Browns to a 24-10 win at the Las Vegas Raiders in the first regular-season start of his young career on Sunday, he somewhat defiantly said that "a lot of people want to see me fail, and that ain't going to happen."

That comment seemingly didn't sit well with former NFL head coach and current ESPN personality Rex Ryan.

What Rex Ryan wishes Shedeur Sanders would've said after win over Raiders

"Every time you win a game...please use 'us' and 'we,'" Ryan said while speaking about Sanders during Monday's edition of the ESPN "Get Up" program. "And anytime you lose, it's 'me' and 'I.' And watch your popularity in the locker room and around the country will go [up]. ...First thing you should have said is, 'We had 10 sacks on the quarterback! Are you kidding me? Myles Garrett is the man."

In September, Ryan suggested he had reason to believe that Sanders hadn't been working hard enough to leapfrog fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel on the depth chart. More recently, Ryan said it looked like some Browns players weren't hyped when Sanders made his regular-season debut against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11.

As Ryan referenced, the Cleveland defense sacked Raiders quarterback Geno Smith 10 times on Sunday. Garrett was responsible for three of those takedowns to increase his NFL-best total to 18 sacks on the season.

Meanwhile, Sanders completed 11-of-20 passes for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception against the Raiders. He gained over 50 yards on a deep ball thrown to rookie wide receiver Isaiah Bond late in the first quarter. Halfway through the fourth quarter, rookie running back Dylan Sampson caught a short pass and then took the ball 66 yards to the house for a score.

What Rex Ryan liked about Shedeur Sanders' play vs. Raiders

"I love his touch on the deep ball," Ryan added about Sanders. "...He completed three passes for over 35 yards. If you take the whole season with all those other Browns [veteran Joe Flacco and Gabriel], they completed one ball over 35 yards. One."

Sanders only started against the Raiders because Gabriel was in the concussion protocol after he suffered a head injury on Nov. 16. As of Monday morning, it was unclear if Sanders or Gabriel will get the nod when Cleveland hosts the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 30.

The 7-4 Niners will first welcome the 6-5 Carolina Panthers to Levi's Stadium for a "Monday Night Football" clash ahead of Thanksgiving.
