Rex Ryan Seems To Know What Aaron Rodgers Is Doing In 2025

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets close out a disappointing 2024 campaign Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets entered the season with hopes of snapping their lengthy playoff drought and being a threat in the AFC. Instead, they're 4-12 going into the finale against the Miami Dolphins, and there are questions regarding Rodgers' desire to play in 2025. The four-time NFL MVP has not definitively said one way or another if today is his final professional game.

On ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown today, Rex Ryan said he thinks Rodgers will ultimately decide to play again in 2025, but does not think it will be with the Jets.

"No," Ryan said clearly when asked if Rodgers would be back.

After Tedy Bruschi said you "can't let players like this" walk out the door, Ryan responded.

"You can let a guy walk out the door when he's not committed to the team," Ryan said. "You can't tell me that hasn't been the case. This is a guy that wasn't at mandatory minicamp. Enough said."

Interesting comments in a vacuum, and when you factor in that Ryan is set to interview for the Jets' head coaching vacancy this week, they become even more intriguing.

At the very least, Rodgers will be a topic that gets discussed when Ryan sits down with Jets brass in the coming days. He made it clear today how he feels about the 41-year-old QB.

Rodgers, meanwhile, told reporters last week he will take a respite before ultimately coming to a conclusion on his future.

"I need a break mentally," Rodgers told reporters. "I don't want to make a decision until I've been able to rest mentally and physically ... I just need a break to refresh, put my feet in the sand and see where I'm at after that.

"March is free agency, I don't think we're going to get that far because there's going to be a regime change here with the GM and then I'll either get a call or have a conversation and go from there."

The Jets and Dolphins will kick off today at 4:25 p.m. ET.
