Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had a down 2024 season by his standards but still finished with 97 receptions, which was 12th in the NFL. Despite that, there has been speculation that this season could be his last dance in the NFL.
Kelce is 35 and has already cemented his status as a future Hall of Famer. Being part of the first team to win three straight Super Bowls could be the perfect cherry on top of a legendary career.
Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is only five months older than Kelce but retired three years ago. Despite that, he still thinks the Chiefs tight end has plenty of gas left in the tank.
"I think Travis Kelce has a couple more years in him if he wants it," Gronkowski told Athlon in an interview on behalf of Bounty. "If you're just looking at him, he's still quick in his breaks, he's got reliable hands, knows the game of football way too well to not be able to get open out there in zone defenses, even in man coverage, as well, so it's up to him. If he's still loving the game, I feel like he can easily go two to three more years."
Kelce may have the athletic ability to continue playing, but his retirement decision will ultimately come down to whether he still wants to go through the daily physical and mental grind that comes with being a high-end football player.
