Robert Kraft Shares Brutally Honest Review of Recent Patriots Seasons

The New England Patriots had one of the greatest dynasties in professional sports history. With Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and Robert Kraft leading the ship, the Patriots have won six Super Bowls since the turn of the century. But, since the glory days of Brady and Belichick, the Patriots have floundered.

In an interview at Fanatics Fest with ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Kraft shared a blunt assessment of the 2023 and 2024 teams. Kraft didn't hold back and reviewed his team fairly and harshly without pulling his punches.

"I'm very excited about this upcoming season," Kraft said. "The last two years were the worst years of my 31 years of ownership. We have to change that."

In his time owning the Patriots, since 1994, the team has never had a worse season than the past two years of football in New England. His assessment that the past two years were the worst is a reality, not a feeling.

Going 4-13, or a .235 winning percentage, the Patriots were at the bottom of the NFL both seasons. In his time owning the team, Kraft has seen the Patriots never win as few games as they have in each of the past two seasons.

The next closest record was the 2000 Patriots, who finished 5-11. Their winning percentage of .313 was bad, but it was followed up by winning the Super Bowl in 2001 and kicking off one of the best dynasties in sports history.

The two-year stretch from 2023 to 2024 was the worst two years in Patriots history under Kraft's ownership. Those seasons were only the second time Kraft's Patriots have had back-to-back losing seasons.

But with Mike Vrabel taking over at head coach and the development of Drake Maye heading into year two, the Patriots are in much better shape than they were a year ago.

"We have a coach in Mike Vrabel who's really connected with the players, who's doing great work." Kraft said. "We have a young quarterback and a lot of great veterans, a great draft class, we're going to have fun this year, I promise."

Kraft knows how poorly the past two seasons went, and he has faith that the new leadership will help New England get back over .500 and into the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
