Rodgers committed to Packers for 'two to three years' after signing extension last offseason

Nearly a week after the Green Bay Packers season ended, quarterback Aaron Rodgers's future is still up in the air, despite having three years remaining on a contract extension signed in March.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, when Rodgers signed the extension, he committed to the Packers for "two or three years."

"My understanding is he committed to the Packers for two or three years. In fact, Packers general manager Brad Gutekunst referenced this during his press conference this week," Rapoport said. "That is what the organization expected. Still, they're going to give Rodgers time to consider his decision."

Per media personality and former NFL punter Pat McAfee, Rodgers didn't make his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" this week because he was meeting with the Packers regarding his future on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Following the Packers' loss to the Detroit Lions last Sunday, eliminating them from postseason consideration, Rodgers revealed that he could walk away from the game, even though Green Bay owes him almost $60 million. As Rapoport broke down, if Rodgers decides to hang up his cleats for good, it'll cost the Packers $40 million in dead cap.

Rodgers inked a three-year, $150.6 million extension on March 15.

If this is the end for Rodgers, he'll end his career coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. The 39-year-old led the Packers to an 8-9 record in 17 starts, posting a 64.6 completion percentage while throwing for 3,695 yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

While it's unclear what Rodgers will ultimately do, Rapoport reports that they "really like" backup Jordan Love, but they want the future Hall of Famer back.
