Ron Rivera wishes every American had access to proper health care

Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera currently is being treated for cancer. While he has some of the best health care in the country, he's become extremely empathetic for those who don't have access to the same level of care.

Rivera told Sal Paolantonio of ESPN that seeing how much his health care costs makes him wish every American was covered in the same way he is.

“It speaks to the value and the need of proper medical for our country,” Rivera said. “Going through the things I’m going through and seeing what these things cost, you just hope everybody is protected and covered. You really do.”

Millions of Americans aren't covered, and many more have lost coverage due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With a diagnosis like Rivera's, many Americans would be financially unable to afford the cost of treatment.

Despite Rivera's cancer treatment, he's been coaching the Washington Football Team since the start of the 2020 campaign. Entering Sunday, the team is 1-2 on the season, tied for first in the bumbling NFC East.
