The LA Chargers are adding to their iconic uniform set with highly anticipated alternate uniforms. Chargers fans are patiently waiting for the uniforms to be revealed in July with high expectations around what they will be.
The conspiracies are already flying, with some convinced that they already know what the new alternate helmet will be. Chargers fans have been clamoring for the team to bring back the old navy helmets of the mid-2000s and the latest rumors are in line with those hopes.
Well... sort of. If this rumor comes to fruition, the Chargers will indeed bring back navy helmets. They just don't look exactly like the ones that fans are hoping come back.
The merch company collaborating with the Chargers posing in this claimed this helmet was just a collectible…

Well guess what? A source tells me this IS the new Chargers alt helmet & 1 new uniform is gonna look like this concept (via IG/DesignedByFranco) https://t.co/HIiCD306la pic.twitter.com/lfvEsunyhq
In case it wasn't clear in the post above, the new rumored helmet is the one on the right photo of Justin Herbert. It's also the helmet that is being held in the promo photo in the original post.
Chargers fans wanted a navy helmet and these rumors confirm that fans will get a navy helmet. However, it is not quite what fans were hoping for if this comes to be true. Chargers fans wanted the iconic filled-in white lightning bolt, and probably wanted to see a helmet without the numbers on the side.
While the helmet is not exactly what most fans want, it does tell us a lot about what the uniforms might be if this indeed is true. The Chargers are revealing a pair of new uniforms next month, and this navy helmet all but confirms the team will bring back the navy look from the mid-2000s.
However, it also opens the door for another intriguing colorway. One theory is that the Chargers will wear all-white uniforms with navy accents (similar to the mid-2000s) with the navy helmet. This would be slightly different from the all-whites the team currently wears with the powder blue accents and white helmet.
Regardless of which direction the team goes, it seems inevitable that the Bolts will retire two of their alternate uniforms to make room for these two new looks. The current all-navy look, which the Bolts are winless while wearing, is dead in the water.
The team may also officially ax the royal blue, color-rush inspired uniforms. It still is technically part of the uniform rotation but the Bolts did not wear it a single time in 2024.
