Russell Wilson Just Fired Back At 'Classless' Sean Payton

We've officially got beef between New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson and Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

Payton coached Wilson during the 2023 season. The veteran quarterback completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Although that appears to be a respectable stat line, it was pretty evident that Payton wasn't thrilled with the way Wilson ran his offense. That's why the Broncos cut the Super Bowl champion during the 2024 offseason.

This past Sunday, the Broncos defeated the Giants in a 33-32 thriller. Payton couldn't help but take a shot at Wilson while talking about Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, who had 283 passing yards, four total touchdowns and an interception.

“I have a ton of respect for that organization,” Payton said. “I spent four of my early years there coordinating, Super Bowl, first game in this stadium, before 9/11. I’m close with the Mara and Tisch families. And they found a little spark with that quarterback. I was talking to John Mara not too long ago and I said we were hoping that that change would have happened long long after our game.”

There's no question Payton was throwing shade at Wilson, who was benched by the Giants after a Week 3 performance where he completed 56.2% of his passes and tossed two interceptions.

Russ isn't holding back.

On Tuesday afternoon, Wilson fired back at his former coach. He didn't pull any punches, that's for sure.

"Classless… but not surprised…. Didn’t realize you’re still bounty hunting 15+ years later through the media," Wilson wrote on X.

Ouch.

Wilson isn't known for making harsh statements like this, but it's pretty evident he wanted to air out his thoughts about Payton. Why else would he bring up the bounty scandal?

Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 season because the New Orleans Saints had a bounty scandal where players would be rewarded for deliberately knocking out opposing players.

We'll see if Payton responds to Wilson's eye-opening social media post.
