  • Russell Wilson benched after 0-3 start; rookie Jaxson Dart becomes the New York Giants' starting quarterback.
  • Wilson and his wife Ciara executive produce "Sarah’s Oil," a film about Sarah Rector.
  • Wilson is expected to remain benched as the Giants face the Denver Broncos in Week 7.

Russell Wilson’s first season with the New York Giants has not gone according to plan. After losing his first three games with his new team, Wilson was benched in favor of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who has made waves as the Giants’ new QB1.

Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Giants in the offseason worth $10.5 million. He will now need to settle for a bench role as Dart does not appear to have any intention of conceding the starting gig anytime soon. For the time being, Wilson is very likely to be forced to watch games from the bench.

It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride for Wilson over the past several years. After spending the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, the Giants are now the 10-time Pro Bowler’s third team in four years.

Wilson signed with New York as the team’s starting quarterback. In his first three games, the 36-year-old registered 65-of-110 completed passes (59.1%) for 778 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Those aren’t exactly terrible numbers, but the fact of the matter is that Wilson led the Giants to an 0-3 start.

Away from football, one of Wilson’s ventures off the field is his production company, Why Not You Productions. The former North Carolina State Wolfpack star founded the company with his wife, Ciara, and they are now set to launch their next film on Nov. 7 entitled “Sarah’s Oil.”

Wilson took to social media on Friday to share an exciting update about the movie.

"What's up, guys? Russ here,” the Giants QB said in the promotional video. “I'm super excited to tell you guys about the new movie, 'Sarah's Oil.'

“In the 1900s, there was so much tension young Sarah Rector has to overcome. She overcomes it because of her family and her faith.

“I can’t wait for you guys to watch this movie. Make sure you check it out.”

Both Wilson and Ciara are listed as executive producers for the film, which is a true story based on the journey of Sarah Rector to becoming one of the first Black female millionaires in the United States during the 1900s.

Apart from Why Not You Productions, Amazon MGM Studios is also producing “Sarah’s Oil.”

Why Not You Productions is just one of Wilson’s companies under the Why Not You umbrella, which also includes the brand management company West2East Empire, his sportswear line 3BRAND as well as the Why Not You Foundation.

As for his football, Wilson is expected to remain on the bench when the Giants return to action in Week 7. The Giants battle the Denver Broncos, one of Wilson’s former teams, on Sunday in a road game at Empower Field at Mile High. Kickoff is set at 4:05 p.m. ET.
