Alabama football’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb highlighted a glaring issue in the Tide’s rushing attack Monday while talking to reporters.
The Crimson Tide has struggled to run the football as of late and this is no secret. Alabama’s coaching staff has been questioned about the lack of production they are getting out of their running backs over the last few weeks.
The Tide’s rushing attack finally showed some life against Oklahoma. Grubb credited the Tide’s offensive line for doing their job to make this happen while highlighting the Tide’s decent game on the ground on Monday. The Alabama OC also highlighted a glaring issue with the Tide’s run game.
“I know it doesn’t feel like that with 80 yards, but the reality is we’ve been, for the last month or better, it’s tough to say, but we’ve averaged between seven to nine negative yard run plays per game, and on Saturday night we had two, and they were gains of zero, so technically they weren’t negative,” Grubb said. “And both of those runs, we just missed them. We had big holes that we just didn’t freaking hit, and it sucks, because the o-line worked their tails off. And that’s a part that I know they see that, I know that our guys see that on film. And so I thought the o-line played well.”
Alabama’s running backs have been criticized for their lack of vision in recent weeks. Grubb apparently sees this as an issue as well.
Daniel Hill is emerging as a bright spot out of the backfield for the Tide. If he can consistently show promise, he has an opportunity to take overs as Alabama’s starting running back.
