Saints Add Kyle Wilber To Their Special Teams Staff
USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints have made a hire to their special teams staff. Nick Underhill of neworleans.football reports on Monday that the Saints have hired Kyle Wilber as assistant special teams coordinator.

Wilber, 35, has spent the last two seasons as a special teams quality control coach for the Green Bay Packers. He'll work under Saints special teams coordinator Phil Galiano, who was promoted from assistant special teams coordinator the last few seasons under coordinator Darren Rizzi.

A former NFL linebacker, Wilber played collegiately at Wake Forest. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Wilber played for the Cowboys from 2012 to 2017.

In 2018, the Oakland Raiders signed Wilber in free agency. He'd be with the Raiders through the end of the 2021 campaign. While with Oakland and Las Vegas, Wilber was a teammate of current Saints quarterback Derek Carr and current Saints tight end Foster Moreau.

Over his 10-year NFL career with the Cowboys and Raiders, Wilber appeared in 135 games with 17 starts. He'd record 153 total tackles, including six for loss and 3.5 sacks. He also forced three fumbles and had six fumble recoveries.

The New Orleans Saints annually had one of the league's best special teams units under Darren Rizzi and Phil Galiano. With Galiano now the unit's coordinator, Wilber comes over from Green Bay to continue that expectation.

New Orleans has an up-and-coming kicker with excellent range in Blake Grupe and a field position changer in punter Matthew Hayball. Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed is one of the league's most explosive kickoff and punt returners.

The Saints have arguably the NFL's most stifling kickoff and punt coverage units. J.T. Gray is annually among All-Pro consideration for his special teams contributions, leading an aggressive and athletic group.
