Earlier this week, the New Orleans Saints generated controversy when reports surfaced that they had brought in former NFL kicker Justin Tucker for a workout. Tucker had been previously suspended by the NFL for alleged sexual misconduct at various Baltimore massage parlors in the Baltimore area during his time with the Ravens, and hadn’t appeared with a new team since then.
On Tuesday, the Saints indeed ended up signing a kicker, but it was not Tucker.
“After a strong workout today, the Saints are going to sign kicker Cade York to the practice squad, per source,” reported Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football on X, formerly Twitter.
York has spent time with several organizations after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Since then, he has been with the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, back with the Browns, Washington Commanders, Cincinnati Bengals, and now on the Saints’ practice squad, where he will seemingly get a chance to compete for a starting job as the season enters its home stretch.
Meanwhile, it’s unclear what the future will hold for Tucker. The Saints’ reported hosting of a workout for him was met with a chorus of backlash from social media, which could have influenced the team’s decision to go in another direction.
Overall, the Saints are struggling through an abysmal season, with their recent loss to the rival Atlanta Falcons dropping them to 2-9 on the campaign. They will next take the field on Sunday on the road vs the Miami Dolphins.
